Don't SPAM Me vs Cloaked

A privacy suite versus a single tool. The right answer depends entirely on what you already pay for.

Cloaked is a privacy suite that includes aliases; we're an alias service and nothing else. Cloaked bundles email and phone aliases, data-broker removal, a password manager, a VPN and $1M identity-theft insurance for $119.99/year. Don't SPAM Me does one of those things, free, on a domain you own. If you want the whole stack in one subscription, Cloaked is a reasonable buy. If you already have a password manager and want portable aliases, you're paying for six products to get one.

These are not the same category

Most comparisons on this site are between two alias services. This one isn't, and pretending otherwise would be misleading.

Cloaked sells a bundle: aliases, removal, passwords, VPN, monitoring, insurance. The pitch is that one subscription covers your whole privacy posture, and for someone who currently has none of those things, that's a genuinely sensible purchase. Buying the components separately โ€” a password manager, a removal service, a VPN โ€” costs more than $119.99 a year in most combinations.

We sell aliases. That's the entire product.

So the honest framing isn't "which is better", it's what do you already have? If you're paying for 1Password and Mullvad and you're happy with them, Cloaked's bundle is mostly redundant and you're buying five things to get one. If you have none of it and want the problem handled in a single purchase, the bundle is doing real work.

Where Cloaked is better

  • Phone aliases. We have no equivalent and no plan for one. If robocalls and SMS spam are your actual problem, we do not solve it โ€” the connection between the two is real, but the countermeasure is different.
  • Data-broker removal. This addresses records that already exist. Aliases only affect what happens next. They are complementary mechanisms, not substitutes, and anyone who tells you aliases replace removal is selling you something.
  • Replies. Cloaked supports them. We don't, at all.
  • Insurance and monitoring. Real products with real value; we offer nothing in that space.
  • It works with no domain. Sign up and you have aliases. We require you to own or register a domain first, which is a genuine barrier.

Where Don't SPAM Me is different

The addresses are yours

Cloaked's aliases live on Cloaked's domain. That's the standard arrangement and it's fine while you're a subscriber โ€” but it means the addresses are rented. Stop paying and every address you've handed out stops working, so every account using one has to be re-addressed. At $119.99 a year, that's a renewal you can't really decline once you've distributed a few hundred addresses.

Ours are on a domain you registered. Cancel us and the domain still points wherever you tell it to. Why this is the thing to check first.

Attribution, not just masking

Both stop a company seeing your real address. Only one tells you what happened after you handed the alias over: an email and push alert naming the new sender's domain when an alias starts receiving mail from someone it was never given to, and a running list of the companies that did it.

No subscription

The software is free; the cost is a domain, typically $10โ€“15 a year. That's not a like-for-like saving โ€” you're getting one product instead of six โ€” but if aliases are the only part of the bundle you want, the price difference is roughly a hundred dollars a year.

The verdict

Cloaked is a well-built suite and the bundle maths works if you'd otherwise buy the components. The two things to go in with your eyes open about: the aliases are on their domain, so leaving is expensive in a way the price page doesn't show you; and the removal component is subject to the same limits as every removal service, which is that brokers re-acquire.

Pick us if aliases are the specific thing you want, you're willing to own a domain, and you'd rather have attribution than a bundle. Pick Cloaked if you want one subscription to cover a problem you haven't started on yet โ€” that's a real need and we don't serve it.

Common questions

How much does Cloaked cost?
Cloaked Individual is $119.99 per year, or $14.99 per month billed monthly. Couple is $174.99 per year and Family $299.99 per year. There is no free tier. The price covers email and phone aliases, data-broker removal, a password manager, a VPN and $1M identity-theft insurance.
Is Cloaked worth it compared with a standalone alias service?
It depends what you already own. If you have no password manager, no VPN and no removal service, the bundle costs less than buying those components separately. If you already pay for them, you are buying five products to get one, and a dedicated alias service will be far cheaper.
What happens to Cloaked aliases if you cancel?
Cloaked aliases are on Cloaked's domain, so they stop working when the subscription ends and every account using one has to be re-addressed. Aliases on a domain you registered yourself keep working regardless of which provider routes them.

Give every service its own address

Don't SPAM Me puts unlimited aliases on a domain you own. Any address at that domain starts working the first time mail arrives, and when spam turns up you know exactly which company leaked it. The software is free; you bring the domain, or register one during setup.
